Accepting Applications Construction Trades Board
Manatee County is now accepting applications for four openings on the Construction Trades Board. Openings for Two (2) state-licensed contractors.
The Construction Trades Board regulates state and local contractors and licensed local contractors within unincorporated Manatee County. The Construction Trades Board has the authority to discipline anyone who violates applicable local code, State Statutes or Florida Building Code provisions pertaining to the activities of licensed contractors, including the authority to suspend and or revoke their licenses and impose monetary fines.
The following board positions are open – and need to be filled:
• Commercial Swimming Pool Contractor (seat #2)
• Licensed Plumb/Elec/Mech Contractor (Seat #4)
The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, as needed, at 3 p.m. in the Patricia M. Glass Chambers, located at 1112 Manatee Ave West, Bradenton.
Applications are due March 31, 2023 and may be found online at www.mymanatee.org/advisoryboards.
The inspection demand continues to increase and the Manatee County Building Division is doing everything we can to meet inspection deadlines. We are bringing on two new inspectors next month and are actively recruiting inspectors to fill vacant positions. While we are doing everything we can to meet your needs, there are a couple ways you can help as well.
VuSpex Virtual Inspections
We have invested in technology to increase efficiency by implementing VuSpex, our virtual inspection program. This program is designed to make inspections more convenient for contractors and residents, as inspections can be done at the contractor’s leisure, without having to schedule with us. This also saves our inspectors travel time, allowing them to schedule and conduct more inspections in a single day. Unfortunately, in the last 2 months, we have seen very little use of VuSpex by contractors. Without your help and participation, this program cannot be successful. There are many inspections that can be done virtually, and we will be adding more in the future. Our business services group can provide on-site training to contractors who are having difficulties using the program. For more information on VuSpex, please visit our website: https://www.mymanatee.org/departments/building___development_services/building_permits/inspections/virtual_inspections.
We are also seeing an influx of inspections being cancelled last minute. In January and February, we had over 800 cancellations per month. That equates to a full day of inspections being lost per month. Most of these inspections were cancelled mid-day because the work was not completed and ready for inspection. When inspections are cancelled last minute, we are typically unable to schedule additional inspections as it requires contractor notification, etc. We ask all contractors to please not schedule inspections unless you are certain the work is completed and ready to be inspected.
In closing, we will continue to make necessary adjustments to ensure your inspection needs are met. Working together as a team through leveraging VuSpex for virtual inspections and avoiding day-of inspection cancellations, we can better improve our level of service to you. Thank you for your support and for trusting us in providing your inspection needs. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
